Macy’s Way Placement Program
Macy’s Way placement program is an opportunity to help families that have experienced a traumatic event through medical, mental or physical hardship. These families or individuals are very special people selected to raise puppies in the hopes that a furry friend might provide the beginning of their healing process and a lifelong companion. The dogs that we place come from a variety of sources and breeds and might possibly include the puppies of Macy’s beloved Lulu, a six-year old golden doodle, or might even be a pup of Lulu’s daughter, Skeeter, a three-year old golden doodle.
We select adorable puppies and place them in loving homes (at no charge to the selected family or individual). We ask them to raise the puppy as their own. The selected families agree to ensure the dogs are happy, safe and well taken care of as puppies, young adults and for years after.
Here are some expectations of selected families:
feed high quality dog food as recommended by local veterinarians
provide a secure, fenced yard
take the dog to vet clinic as needed for required shots, etc.
teach puppy basic obedience
have fun, love and spoil the dogs as much as possible
At some point if the selected would like to have the dog become a certified therapy dog, Macy’s Way would agree to pay for the necessary training

FAQ's about Macy’s Placement
We do our best to ensure the selected family and puppy are the right fit for each other. We strive to have a great working relationship with each selected family.
What are the costs of having a guardian dog?
Dogs in our selected program are placed, at no charge, with their family. Macy’s Way covers all expenses related to the dog including vet visits/shots up to the point of placement with a selected family or individual. Selected families are responsible for the day to day costs of owning a dog (grooming, food, heart worm/flea tick prevention, obedience training).
Why become a selected family?
For some, the cost of a puppy may be prohibitive. With our selected family program, there is no upfront out of pocket expense to purchase the puppy. You are guaranteed an adorable dog that we hope will be a lifelong friend!
Who can fill out an application?
Anyone can apply. You can apply for yourself or for someone you think might be a good fit to benefit from a new dog in their lives.
When would the dogs be available?
Because of the irregularity of the pups and dogs we have available to place, the timing would depend on many factors including a new litter, donation from another source and other situations. Macy’s Way would do our best to provide as much time as possible to a selected family for them to be prepared for their new addition.
What happens if there are no puppy’s available at the time of my application?
Macy’s Way will collect and hold the applications for future placements. Our board of directors and other Macy Way’s supporters will evaluate the applications, choose a possible match and we will contact the applicants in the selected order they have placed the applicants.
